A veteran finding connection again
Jared’s recovery is not just about personal resilience. It is about rebuilding ties with other veterans, creating space for honesty and shared struggle. Through climbing, he has found a way back to community and purpose.
Para-climbing as craft
Para-climbing routes are not easier—they are set with intention. Working with Sport Rock Climbing Centers and Aaron Davis, one of the leading para-climbing route setters, Jared is organizing a clinic to train setters in designing adaptive routes. These sessions explore how to build climbs that reflect the abilities of athletes with different needs, whether that means vision loss, lower-limb differences, or other physical conditions. The goal is to create routes that are both challenging and fair.
From the individual to the community
The project leads to a public exhibition where veterans, new climbers, and elite para-athletes climb together. It is less about competition and more about shared support. On the wall, athletes push themselves as far as possible. Off the wall, many still face barriers in everyday life. That contrast is honest, striking, and essential to understanding why this story matters.
The film began in 2022, when director Colt Bradley first met Jared on Mount Washington. Since then, the project has grown into a multi-year collaboration. The team has filmed Jared in therapy sessions, at climbing meetups with veterans, during training, and in the planning of the para-climbing clinic.
Shot in a vérité style, Climbable draws the audience into Jared’s daily life. We see him at his most frustrated and at his most determined. The film does not flatten him into a symbol. Instead, it shows him as he is—open, imperfect, and deeply committed. That honesty is what makes Climbable resonate. It is not a polished tale of triumph, but a lived journey of persistence and care.
